Weekend Video Roundup: Ferrari FF Helo Ride, Jaguar XKR-S Promo, Ford Mustang Boss 302S Testing & More

Weekend Video Roundup Title

Seeing as we’re (barely) old enough to remember the days when three-color computer monitors were considered cutting edge (Honestly, how many colors can’t white, cyan and magenta stand in for?), we have a certain appreciation for the ability to pipe video through data lines and through the air and onto a screen. In fact, we’re so enamored with this miracle of modern technology that we’ve decided to start a weekly feature that collects the coolest, highest-octane motoring videos of the week and funnels them to your eyeballs in one neat, easy to digest article.

So without further ado, here’s the very first edition of Sub5Zero Weekend Video Roundup.

McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Testing

While some people feel that any McLaren-badged roadcar built after the F1 will be inferior to that epoch-marking center-seat supercar, the new MP4-12C certainly won’t be mistaken for anything found on the local airport’s Avis lot, both in terms of looks and performance. No surprise, then, that the MP4-12C is being used as the basis of a GT3-class racecar aimed at privateer campaigners.

McLaren cameras were rolling when this competition version had its first shakedown run on Silverstone’s short, twisty Stowe Circuit. Want one? Register at www.mclarengt.com and cross your fingers that the folks in Woking deem you worthy of flying their flag in battle.

Ford Mustang Boss 302S Testing

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, another turn-key race car was put through its paces at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida. The racing version of the new Ford Mustang Boss 302 – the Boss 302S – has an upgraded version of the street version’s high-winding 5.0L V8, as well as a competition spec aero-package, roll cage and other gear. Expect to see this car (and its beautiful song) show up at racetracks soon.

Jaguar XKR-S Promo

It wasn’t that long ago that 500hp was considered a 50-gallon-drum’s-worth of the stuff, but times have changed. Now, Jaguar’s 500hp XKR seems a bit limp-wristed vis-à-vis some of its competitors. But rather than sit idly by, Jaguar has created the XKR-S, the most powerful production Jag since the vaunted XJ220. The supercharged 5.0L V8 now makes 550hp, and there are new styling geegaws and thingamabobs to ensure people know that it can do the 0-60 mph shuffle in 4.2 seconds. Rowr…

Ferrari FF Gets a Helicopter Ride

Question: What’s the best way to get a new Ferrari FF to a ski resort high in the mountains? A road works well (assuming the slopes are accessible by one), but it can take a while and your entrance won’t be particularly dramatic. Instead, Ferrari chose to fly one up in the rump of a Chinook helicopter. Once there, the FF demonstrated how well its all-wheel-drive system bites the terrain for a segment in this video.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage S B-Roll

To the untrained eye, it almost looks as though Aston Martin is in a race to release as many variations of its models as possible. Exactly who they’re in a race with is anyone’s guess. At any rate, the new V8 Vantage S is intended to serve as a stepping stone between the regular V8 Vantage and the hot dog V12 Vantage. If nothing else, the V8 Vantage S looks great and sounds even better tearing around Spain’s Ascari Race Resort over these eight minutes of beautiful bean, uh, driving footage.
