Top Gear Series 22 LEGO trailer

VIDEO: Top Gear Gets LEGO-fied in New Series 22 Trailer

Although the recent – and controversy-dogged – Patagonia special provided some needed relief from a long Top Gear drought, the program’s extended-length specials that the BBC premieres during the December holidays are kind of seasons (or series, as the Brits call them) unto themselves. Serious fans of the show are all about the “regular” episodes, with the new car tests, news, smaller-scale challenges and other Top Gear staples. Well, the 22nd series will be starting soon, and Auntie Beeb has released a new trailer for it…with a twist.

That twist, as you can see, is that the whole thing is rendered in CGI LEGO. Jeremy, Richard, James and (most of) the Stig are here, with the first three providing voices for their virtual plastic analogues, as are LEGO versions of the Peel P50, Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust, unkillable Toyota Hilux and other iconic machines from the show’s history, plus the new Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari LEGO sets that should be in stores any day now. As trailers go, this was ambitious but…not rubbish.
