Ulysse Nardin Black Sea Emerges from the Darkness

If you were to describe a watch to someone as “mostly black” and not show them a picture of it, chances are they’d say something along the lines of “Meh, sounds a bit drab.” Of course, if you mentioned that said watch featured gold and luminescent blue accents, they’d probably change their tune. But why just describe such a watch when you can show one?

Built by Ulysse Nardin, a Swiss watchmaker that was established way, way back in 1846, the Black Sea is built around a 45.8 millimeter stainless steel case that wears a distinctive black vulcanized rubber coating and is water-resistant to 200 meters. Inside the case resides a 28-jewel UN-26 self-winding movement for the watch, small seconds dial and date window, and a power reserve indicator to show how much of the claimed 42 hours of power reserve is available. The matching black rubber strap features a pair of black ceramic segments with the Ulysse Nardin logotype and “Limited Edition” etched on the outward faces.

How limited are we talking? Just 1,846 units will be made, though it’s worth noting that there are five more color and material variants available in addition to the handsome blue and gold combination seen here, including a lavish green and gold. Turns out your watch doesn’t have to be bright to be flashy.
