Spring 2009, Resurrected from 1968, the Ford Shelby GT500KR Returns
The “King of the Road” Mustang is returning in a limited production run of 1746 vehicles. There are many aftermarket flavors of Mustangs on the market, but the KR version is the most powerful that still provides the assurance of a factory-backed warranty direct from Ford. So, please, rest at ease when you are flooring the pedal, putting the 540 hp engine through its paces. The 6 speed manual transmission, complete with throwback cue ball shifter, takes the car to 60mph in 4.1 seconds.
Yes, the horsepower war out of Detroit is still going strong. The 5.4 liter V8 is built by hand from the folks at Ford’s SVT unit. The supercharged engine puts out 40 more horses than the stock GT500 but is still limited to 155-mph, not by choice however. $79,995 cash and a GT500KR can be in your garage.
If you own a 2007 GT500 and are feeling like you jumped in too soon, you can always haul you ride out to Las Vegas where Shelby has his Special Performance Plant. There, for an extra $28,000, you can regain your feeling of superiority when you take delivery of your Super Snake. This variant provides 605 hp, bumps the wheels from 18 inches to 20 inch Alcoas and offers a host of cosmetic tweaks.
