SpoCom 2010 Long Beach Super Show Delivers the Goods
On Sunday July 18, 2010, the Long Beach Convention Center hosted one of the hottest, most anticipated car shows – Spocom 2010! Hot cars, hot women, and hot weather; what more could you want on your last day off from work for the week? Each and every year Spocom raises the bar for automotive events, and this year they definitely didn’tdisappoint. With the American economy in shambles, it’s always nice to get away from reality and check out amazing cars, with my college tuition invested in them. And having 200+ models in attendance didn’t hurt either.
From new to old, bling to ratty, Spocom 2010 Long Beach had it all. This definitely isn’t the car show of 30 years ago, where your girlfriend gets bored after walking around, while you look at and talk about cars for a couple of hours. Now days car shows are less focused strictly on cars, and have instead become a full day of entertainment for both men and women. The planners of Spocom kept a very strict schedule throughout the day, and I want to commend the staff for their successful efforts. The show offered live music, dance competitions, a bikini contest and, my personal favorite, a lingerie contest! Did I mention they had a lingerie contest?!
So let’s get back on topic; oh yeah the cars. I was pretty impressed with the caliber of rides that made it to this year’s show, but I had already seen more than half of them at all the other SoCal shows this year. Since I’m more about form over function, I was more interested in gutted hatchbacks, and the cars with some type of forced induction (i.e turbo or supercharger). Stance and wheels hold their own place in my heart, but a Low ‘n’ Slow car doesn’t excite me like a purpose built track rat.
This Honda S2000 was by far my favorite car at the show. Purpose built and it looked good! This car is equipped with a supercharger kit, fully adjustable coil-over suspension, lightweight wheels, big brakes, and some widebody fenders to accomodate for the added lateral grip. This car is built the way the S2000 should’ve come from the factory; fast and mean as hell!
Another work of art, this Infiniti G35 has power and style. This car sports a supercharger kit and coilovers, along with some stretched tire, and beatiful bronze chrome wheels.
This super clean EG era Honda Civic hatchback is slammed to the ground on coilovers, with crazy, dished BBS RS wheels.
An Italian Super Bull – this beautiful Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera means business!
Surf’s up dude! This immaculate ’71 Toyota Corolla Wagon, still holds it’s own respect amongst all the new and exciting rides at the show.
All in all this year’s Spocom Car Show was definitely a day to remember. I definitely consider this one of the top car shows in SoCal, as well as the greater California area. Those that couldn’t make it truly missed out on a great time. I’m excited to see what the crew from Spocom come up with next year, because this one will be hard to beat!
