San Casciano in Val di Pesa Villa is Regal Renaissance Real Estate

Most people know Michelangelo (the artist, not the turtle) was a prolific painter and sculptor, but he was also an architect. He designed chapels, the vestibule at the Laurentian Library, and had a hand in the final design of St. Peter’s Basilica. But Michelangelo also worked on the designs of other structures, including (it is widely believed) the 16th century villa in the village of San Casciano in Val di Pesa seen here and currently listed for sale. But even if it wasn’t designed by one of the Old Masters, there’s still a lot to like about this Tuscan palazzo.

For one thing, there’s almost 13,000 square feet of living area spread among 16 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms. The main villa also features its original terracotta tile floors and multiple floor-to-ceiling frescos dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. There are also four apartments, a guesthouse, a pool and even a private chapel, plus 20 acres of Chianti Classico vineyards and 25 acres of olive orchards. Currently priced at about $12.4 at current exchange rates, we think this estate represents a decent value, particularly if there’s a way to prove it was indeed designed by Michelangelo.
