Saleen 302 Black Label is a Top Shelf Mustang
When it comes to modifying Ford Mustangs for both appearance and performance, the name Saleen has been at the forefront of the business for just over 30 years. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the company has come up with a new, fully-comprehensive tuning package for the also-new 2015 Mustang. What is somewhat surprising is quantity of muscle that it delivers.
The Saleen 302 Black Label – which is the name of this machine, though people who know nothing about cars could be forgiven for assuming it’s some hip new hard liquor product – features, like pretty much every Saleen Mustang since the 1984 originals, a distinctive body kit that highlights the stock Mustang’s muscular lines. A new power bulge hood with a scoop, a rear spoiler, and a carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser and side skirts are among the exterior add-ons, while a set of Saleen-designed 20” wheels (fronting monumental 15” brake rotors) and a host of sport suspension parts give it an even more ground-hugging stance. Inside, it’s a feast of custom leather and carbon fiber, with a custom shift knob, sill plates and a numbered dash plaque also present.
But the biggest feast of all is under that new hood; it is there that Saleen installed – among other things – a twin-screw supercharger on the 5.0L Coyote V8. Output leaps from the stock 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft of torque to a claimed 730 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. That kind of grunt will get you moving in a big hurry, but make sure you find time to stop and earn some more money: The Saleen 302 Black Label will cost you $73,214. Hey, no one said locking horns with the Challenger SRT Hellcat would be cheap…
