Conventional wisdom states that in order to hit250 miles-per-hourin a street legal automobile (read: no purpose-built dragsters or land speed racers), you need to have two things. First there’s the car itself; nothing less than aVeyron,Venom GTor some species ofKoenigseggwill suffice. The other thing is a long, long straightaway, like a couple miles long (or, if that’s not available, some sort of test track with banked turns that let you get a good running start onto the straightaway). Only then, supposedly, can you hit the magical two-bucks-fifty.

Yeah…as it turns out, you don’t need a sleek mid-engine hypercar or a straightaway that lets you see the curvature of the earth. Thanks to a Russian-ownedNissan GT-Rfitted withSwitzer Performance’sGoliath package(and one very brave driver), we now know that you can get a tuned version of the nutsoNissansuper coupe to 250 mph – or about 1/3 of the way to the speed of sound – from a dead stop in the space of one mile. Makes you think conventional wisdom isn’t as wise as it’s cracked up to be, huh?
