O.CT Tuning Gives the Bumblebee Camaro More Sting

2012 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Edition O.CT Tuning front 3/4 view

When Chevrolet was gearing up to re-launch the Camaro a few years ago, they made a deal with the makers of the Transformers movie to cast the concept version as the affable Autobot Bumblebee. To cash in on the flurry of interest brought on by the movie (and its two sequels), Chevrolet in turn released a special edition Bumblebee Camaro featuring yellow paint, black rally stripes and Autobot logo badges. As Transformers director (and noted pyrotechnics aficionado) Michael Bay says, "Awesome!"

Of course, if you need more than 426hp (and let's be honest, who doesn't?), the Bumblebee Camaro falls short of awesome. Thankfully, there are plenty of companies who have made it their duty to do to the Camaro what seeing Mr. Bay's former squeeze Lauren Stoner does to our pulse: Make it faster. And one of those companies comes out of Switzerland and calls itself O.CT Tuning.

The outside of this super Camaro hasn't really been changed from that of the standard 2012 Camaro Transformers Edition. That might seem like laziness on O.CT's part, but the reality is the '12 Transformers Edition is already pretty heavily decked out. The blacked-out five-spoke wheels, the gigantic rear wing, faux carbon fiber stripes with Cybertronian hieroglyphics, and Autobot insignias on the front fenders all make absolutely certain that passers-by know you aren't driving an ordinary fifth generation Camaro.

But in case they still aren't in the know, they'll definitely figure it out when you stand on the rightmost pedal. O.CT fits a bespoke Roots type supercharger supplied by Kenne Bell, plus a lower restriction exhaust system, to the 6.2L LS3 V8. As a result, power jumps from 426hp to 630hp, while torque balloons from 420 lb.-ft to 538 lb.-ft. Those numbers are the sort of awesomeness that can make you forget about, oh, say, the lack of a well-developed plot in a movie (Oh no we di'int!).

O.CT Tuning hasn't said what all these power adding parts will cost, but we're guessing the number will make some people throw up their hands and place an order for a Camaro ZL1 (which, incidentally, makes less horsepower but more torque than does this tuned, vajazlled-by-Hollywood Camaro SS). But if you're truly a fan of the films, and view horsepower through "mine's-bigger-than-yours"-colored glasses, this bad boy is well worth the price. And, of course, it should be noted these parts will fit any manual Camaro SS.
