What You Need to Know Before Hitting the Motocross Track for The First Time

Are you thinking of hitting the motocross track for the first time?  If so, then you are in for a truly exciting experience!  But before you go to the track, there are some things that you will need to know.  Today, we are going to learn more about motocross and the gear needed to compete in the sport.

Bring the Proper Safety Gear

While you probably know to bring a helmet to the track, there is some other safety gear that you will need.  Along with your helmet, you will need a good pair of goggles to protect your eyes from dirt and other track debris.  You also will need a good pair of racing gloves to protect your hands.

Next, you will need a pair of racing boots and a racing jersey along with a pair of motocross pants.  This is the basic set of safety gear that you will need.  There is also additional safety gear that is optional and you may want to learn more about them.  When it comes to manufacturers, there are many great safety gear companies out there. One example is Troy Lee Designs who make affordable products that are durable and will stand the test of time.

Get the Right Bike

Whether you are buying or renting your bike, you need to choose the right one.  First-time motocross riders often get confused about what type of bike to purchase.  Since there are so many different types of bikes on the market, it can be difficult to find the right one.  When shopping or looking for a bike rental, avoid off-road motorbikes.  While they may appear to be good for the track, they often have lights, larger gas tanks and are much heavier that motocross bikes.  These bikes simply can’t handle the right curves and difficult turns of the track.  You would have a hard time keeping up and it could be dangerous for you to try to do so.  This is why you should only consider getting a bike designed strictly for motocross.

Take Full Advantage of Practice Time

Before any motocross race, you will be given some time to practice on the track.  So make sure that you take full advantage of this time and run the track as many times as possible.  This will help you learn the track and know where all the turns and jumps are.  Remember, the more practice you get in, the better you will be during the main event.  Whether you are new to the sport or you already have tons of experience, you will still need to practice before each and every race.

These are just a few things that you will need to learn or bring to the track.  Make sure that you get all your safety gear in order before the day of your race and keep in mind, that practice makes perfect!  Finally, when searching for a bike, try to find one that is made for motocross and avoid off-road bikes that are not built for the track.
