Motus Lone Star 2 Concept is a Boosted Brute

Concept cars get plenty of attention from gearheads (ourselves included), but did you know motorcycle manufacturers occasionally build concept bikes? Makes sense, right? Well Motus – an Alabama-based builder of sport-touring motorcycles – has built a concept, and it’s an absolute monster.

Dubbed the Lone Star 2, this Dixie dynamo is based on the MSTR, the more upmarket of the two current production bikes Motus offers. The stock bodywork has been ditched, while a new fuel tank and seat have been installed on the 4130 chromoly tubular steel frame (co-developed with Pratt & Miller, the subcontractor of choice for most of GM’s current non-NASCAR racing programs) to create a classic café racer profile. However, there’s nothing classic about the powerplant: The longitudinally-mounted 1,650cc Motus V4 exhales through a custom exhaust system, and inhales through a centrifugal supercharger mounted on the lefthand side and driven off the alternator pulley. Motus says those upgrades elevate output from 180 horsepower to about 230 horsepower.

Unfortunately, Motus says the Lone Star 2 is destined to remain a concept. The main reason the company built it was to show customizers how well the engine could take boost with a reprogrammed ECU. All it does is make us want to look for a later Saab 96 in need of a heart transplant…
