Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² is for Big Budget Bros

The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 is arguably the most outrageous, political-correctness-can-get-bent automobile being produced by a major automaker today. But what if you don’t need that third axle, pickup bed or snarling 5.5L twin-turbo V8, yet you still want the Straight Outta Norco lifted stance (with portal axles) and unique front and rear fascias? Well, Mercedes-Benz is introducing a solution at next month’s Geneva Motor Show called the G500 4×4².

While details and photos other than the one above are scarce, we do know that the G500 4×4² rolls on 22” wheels wearing chunky 325/55 series tires. And, thanks to the “G500” part of its name, we can assume it’s powered by either the M273 5.5L V8 that powers the regular G500 (sold here in the U.S. as the G550) or that engine’s successor, the M278 4.7L twin-turbo V8. Unfortunately, it sounds like there are no current plans to offer this brute of a sport ute as a regular production model, though we’re guessing that if you were to write a big enough check (one backed by, say, revenue from oil you sold…), Mercedes-Benz would build you one or something like it.
