IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil Pays Homage

IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil

At the beginning of 2013, the IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Racer wowed us with its rugged stainless steel casing and uber-efficient movement. That watch was the first offering from IWC Schaffhausen as part of its collaboration with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team as its Official Engineering Partner.

Fast forward a few months and IWC has introduced the Chronograph Silberpfeil, an ode to the legendary Mercedez-Benz Silver Arrow, a car which dominated the world of racing in the mid 1930s.

The Chronograph Silberpfeil shares much of the same guts as the Chronography Racer including the the 89361 calibre which offers extremely efficient movement by way of double-pawl winding.

However, this watch sets itself apart with its dial which is grained in either silver or brown, to represent the similarly adorned dashboard of the Silver Arrow W 25.

The chronograph shows elapsed minutes and hours on the subdial as well as can be used to measure pit-stop times with its flyback function. The black rubber strap with alligator leather inlay is reminiscent of the thick leather belts present on the hoods of race cars back in the 1930s.

The case back of the watch features an engraving of an illustrated Silver Arrow race car. The IWC Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil will be offered in a limited production run of 1,000 units with a price point of $13,100.
