Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Bruce Lee is Made for Wrists of Fury
There were martial arts action stars before Bruce Lee, and there have been martial arts action stars after him, but none of them ever really advanced or elevated the genre to the extent that he did. That makes it all the more difficult to believe that he was born just a little over 75 years ago, an occasion that was celebrated last week in his adopted hometown of Hong Kong (Lee was actually born in San Francisco, but his immigrant parents returned the family to Hong Kong when Bruce was an infant.). It was during this celebration that Swiss watchmaker Hublot – together with Lee’s widow Linda and daughter Shannon (below left and center, respectively)– unveiled a stunning special edition watch commemorating the diamond anniversary of the icon’s birth.
The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Bruce Lee, as this timepiece has been named, features a tonneau-style case housing the company’s new HUB4700 automatic-winding movement that boasts 31 gems, 278 total parts and a 50-hour power reserve. The face of the watch is dominated by golden yellow accents, chief among them a fearsome looking dragon; this shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering Lee was born during both the year and hour of the Dragon, and certainly the Chinese Zodiac sign with which he’s most closely associated.
Of course, if you want to acquire this powerful tribute to the remarkable man, it’s gonna cost you: The suggested retail price for the Spirit of Big Bang Bruce Lee is 232,400 Hong Kong dollars, or just a hair under $30,000 U.S. But for that hefty sum you do also get a fair bit of exclusivity, as Hublot will only make 75 examples. So between the price and the rarity, we strongly suggest you refrain from wearing it while practicing Jeet Kun Do, the fighting style Bruce Lee invented.
