In case you’ve been living off the grid for a while (and we certainly don’t blame you for doing so, in light of recent events), we’d like to inform you that our rocky little dinghy in the vast ocean of space is about to enter a new golden age ofsupercars. Over the next 18-or-so months,Acura,Ferrari,McLarenandPorschewill each start rollinggasoline-electric hybridsupercarsinto their showrooms. But just because the basics for all four are the same, don’t assume that the details are.

As engineers, project leaders and test drivers for theAcuraNSX,FerrariLaFerrari,McLarenP1andPorsche918 Spyderexplain in this video from the fine folks atMotorTrend, each team had different goals in mind a different ways of attaining them. Example: McLaren saw fit to include an EV mode in the P1, while Ferrari felt the LaFerrari’s6.3L V12should always be handling at least some of the propulsion so it can be heard. In any case, all four should go faster and use less fuel than they would with just gas power. And you know what? That’s good for all of us.
