The Power of the Hennessey Camaro ZL1 Exorcist Compels You [w/ Video]

In case you’ve been trying the whole Amish thing for the last few months, Dodge has been teasing a new extra-evil, dragstrip-ready version of its Challenger SRT Hellcat called the Demon, reviving a name used on the early ‘70s Dart’s fastback sibling (at least until Chrysler, as the story goes, bowed to pressure from Christian groups and renamed it the Dart Sport). The full reveal is supposed to happen at the New York Auto Show next week, but Texas tuning tycoon John Hennessey and crew already have a rebuttal ready in the form of an even zanier Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 wearing the most fitting moniker possible: The Exorcist.

On the outside, it doesn’t really look any different from a stock 2017 Camaro ZL1, save for the stripes with “The Exorcist” lettering running down the flanks and a great big “Hennessey” decal at the top of the windshield. No, friend, the real changes are reserved for under the skin, with a bigger supercharger and intercooler sitting atop the 6.2L LT4 V8 (which also gets treated to some internal upgrades) dropkicks its output from 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft of torque to 1,000 horsepower and 966 lb.-ft. Hennessey says those sums are sufficient to propel this mega muscle car to 60 mph in less than three seconds and through the quarter-mile in less than 10 when fitted with the Exorcist package’s optional drag radial tires.

And speaking of the package, it will lighten your wallet by $55,000, plus the cost of a donor ZL1. And if said ZL1 has the newfangled Ford-GM 10-speed automatic transmission, you’ll have to hand over another $9,950 to have it beefed up to cope with that extra might. On the plus side, the Exorcist conversion will come with a 2-year or 24,000 mile (whichever comes first) warranty, and HPE will only perform 100 of them per year. We suggest you order yours soon, lest you miss out and wake up one morning with your head doing a full 360° rotation…
