German Tuner Mcchip-dkr Takes Ford Focus 2.5 RS to 401hp

Mcchip Ford Focus RS

This is our first introduction to German tuning shop Mcchip-dkr and our initial impressions are positive. Their newly reworked Ford Focus RS is a solid upgrade to a platform with tremendous potential. In stock form, this front-wheel drive car is good for 305hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, numbers which are already impressive. So Mcchip decided to approach upping the power output through two distinct stages that take advantage of the vehicle’s performance capabilities and provide their customers different options.

In the first phase, by simply remapping the engine control software alone, Mcchip was able to boost the horsepower rating to 345 with 383 lb-ft of torque. This puts top speed at 168 mph. The second stage takes a more comprehensive approach by upgrading the intercooler, applying special spark plugs, utilizing a new inlet manifold, installing a sports exhaust system and performing some additional mods to the engine electronics. This raises terminal velocity to 173 mph. Unfortunately, in both cases, there is no 0-62 mph data available.

Mcchip-dkr is charging €799 for Power Stage 1 and €4,499 for Power Stage 2. Even going with the more expensive option incorporating some serious tuning tweaks, the company is confident that their Ford Focus 2.5 RS will be a comfortable and reliable daily driver. These are obviously two nice packages that are reasonably prices for this dynamic sub-compact, but we’re still on the look-out for the 500hp rear-wheel drive conversion kit that we know somebody, somewhere is going to throw down.
