2009 Geneva Motor Show: Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce Official Release

Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce

Automobili Lamborghini has done it again. The hits just keep coming and coming. The new Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is top of class. The LP 670-4 SV is more powerful, lighter and faster than the LP-640, which is spectacular in its own right. This new iteration of the Murc line has a 6.5-liter V12 capable of 670 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. The 30 hp increase in engine output comes from tweaked valve timing for better optimization and a new intake system. 0-62 mph takes a mere 3.2 seconds. The Superveloce comes with a sequential, automated manual transmission, code named e-gear, that shifts super fast using electro-hydraulics.

Top speed is rated at 212 mph with the standard small rear spoiler. An optional “Aeropack Wing” that is much larger provides additional downforce for better handling but the additional drag makes the car 3 mph slower. I know, a real bummer.

Not only is the new Lamborghini Murcialago LP 670-4 Superveloce more powerful, but it is also considerably lighter than its predecessors. A whopping 220 lbs more svelte. Amazingly, 57 pounds were shed from the exhaust system alone.

The Murcialago is permanent all-wheel drive and compensates for rear wheel spin by pushing up to 35 percent of driving force up front. The car rides on double wishbone suspension front and rear. The SuperVeloce rides on exclusive “Ares” alloy-forged five twin-spoked wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

The design of the LP 670-4 absolutely sets it apart. The coolest feature is the new engine cover which has 3 hexagonal plates made out of transparent polymer interwoven with a carbon-fiber framewwork. The front air intakes for the brakes have been enlarged for better cooling. The revised front fenders have additional air intakes as well for brake ventilation. The carbon fiber front spoiler juts super far out and attaches to the front end with vertical pillars. And the fixed rear spoiler, twin rear diffusers give the rear a very aggro look.

The interior also gets some nice attention with Alcantara upholstered thorough out the car. The stitching is color matched to the exterior. Driver and passenger sit in sports bucket seats. Plenty of carbon fiber is strewn throughout the interior of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce as well. A production run of only 350 units ensures exclusivity.
