DP Customs The Player is a Smokin’ Black-Gold Harley-Davidson
Will we ever get tired of extolling the virtues of a vehicle painted in a combination of black and gold? Highly unlikely. Yeah, we reported on an artist’s concept for a black gold custom motorcycle just one week ago, but this other one (from an Arizona shop called DP Customs) takes things much further. You see, this motorcycle – which began life as a 1997 Harley-Davidson 1200 Sportster – doesn’t just wear the timeless John Player Special cigarette livery because it looks the business; it’s also wears it because this bike is a salute to Mario Andretti (the favorite racing driver of the two brothers who run DP Customs, Jarrod and Justin Del Prado) and the car he drove for most of his world-championship-winning 1978 Formula 1 season, the Lotus 79.
The Del Prados fabricated a new gas tank, seat and tail for this ‘90s Harley, as well as fitting a custom exhaust system, a one-of-a-kind pair of CNC-machined wheels, Brembo brake calipers and a Stack tachometer. The big air-cooled V-twin’s voice won’t be mistaken for that of a Cosworth DFV, and there doesn’t look to be much – okay, anything – in the way of ground effects, but those are the only two shortcomings we can spot…
