Custom 1974 Porsche 914 is a Blacked out Byway Bomber
The Porsche 914 is only slightly less loathed than the front-engined water-cooled models that succeeded it, which has always struck us as odd because, despite having been originally commissioned by Volkswagen and using Volkswagen flat-four engines, the 914 was arguably truer to Ferry Porsche’s original mid-engine vision for the 356 than was the rear-engine production 356. In any event, we kinda like the 914, and we really like this one currently for sale at the big (rich) kid toy store that is the Canepa Collection. The blacked-out color scheme, the GT-style fender flares and, oh yes, a 3.2L Carrera flat-six and Type 915 5-speed manual transaxle transform this murdered-out runabout into a proper Porsche hot rod. No indication how much Canepa is looking to get for this puppy, but it doesn’t cost anything to make them an offer, does it?
