Brabus Turns the Drive to Soccer Practice into a Thrill Ride

While it didn’t end up replacing the beloved G-Wagen like Mercedes-Benz originally planned, the GLS-Class (formerly known as the GL-Class) is still a fine vehicle. It’s spacious, comfy, good looking (in our opinion) and, in AMG-fortified GLS63 form, hilariously speedy. And who better to give the most potent GLS more of, well, everything than the master Mercedes modifiers at Brabus?

The 850 XL, as Brabus calls this conversion package, features a body kit with a carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser, side steps and fender extensions, as well as a set of 23” Brabus Monoblock “Platinum Edition” wheels and a complete makeover for the seven-seat interior centered on perforated leather and brown carbon fiber. But it is the modifications under the hood that take der Kuchen: Increased displacement, new engine management software and more clear the way for the now 6.0L twin-turbo V8 to generate 838 horsepower and 1,069 lb.-ft of torque. Brabus says that’s enough thrust to chuck this big SUV to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds and onto an electronically-limited 186 mph top speed. Of course, we don’t endorse trying to achieve those numbers during the school carpool run, even if you do covet lifetime cool mom/dad status…
