Bell & Ross BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire Makes its Intentions Clear

Confession time: We’re not huge fans of fully transparent watches. With no colors, finishes or distinctive materials comprising their cases, they kind of tend to run together to the untrained eye. But, sometimes, a see-through timepiece comes along that makes even the most jaded horology freak stop and say, “Whoa.” The latest offering from Bell & Ross is definitely one of those watches.

Officially titled the Bell & Ross BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire, this baby’s scratch-proof 45 mm square sapphire case (made from five precision-carved blocks) is home to a hand-wound BR-CAL.288 movement – which is itself skeletalized, furthering the internal visibility – and a delicious flying tourbillon. And if that wasn’t enough, the strap is semi-translucent, so there’s really nothing left to the imagination. Alas, with a retail price of about $385,000 and only eight copies scheduled to be made, imagination is the only way most of us will have access to this watch.
