This Rolex Daytona is a Cool Custom Chrono
Although we don’t chronicle them anywhere near as often as we do custom cars and custom motorcycles, that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate custom watches. Bamford Watch Department, started by George Bamford in 2003 and headquartered in a remodeled five-story townhouse dubbed the Hive in the ritzy London neighborhood of Mayfair, is one of the most – if not the most – prominent establishments of its type, offering modded versions of classic and modern timepieces from the likes of Rolex, Audemars Piguet and TAG Heuer.
One of Bamford Watch Department’s most popular models for customizing is the Rolex Daytona, and one of the latest versions, the Daytona Red “Matt Black,” is a straight-up stunner. The searing scarlet dial – which matches the lettering and numerals on the bezel and triple chronograph dials –contrasts sharply with the satin black case and chronograph dials, while the main hour, minute and second hands and the bezel are polished to a pleasing shine. If this roughly $22,900 watch is to your liking, it’s available for ordering; if you’re not a fan of this color scheme, BWD’s website offers a sweet (and somewhat addictive) configurator for custom orders. Don’t say we didn’t warn you when you look at the clock and realize that you’ve been futzing around with dial and hand colors three hours…
