ATT-TEC BMW 1 Series M Dials up the Boost and Fun

Call us crazy, but we’re worried there will soon come a day (if it hasn’t already) that modified BMW 1 Series M Coupes outnumber stock ones. It seems like we can’t go more than a week or so without hearing about a tuner coming up with a suite of upgrades for the diminutive, short-lived M Car. This time around, the tuner in question is ATT-TEC.

Since the 1M is already a butch looking car, ATT-TEC hasn’t done anything to the body other than slapping some decals on the lower flanks, windshield and backlight. However, the company has lowered the ride height with a KW Dynamic Damping Control coilover kit that features three electronically selectable ride settings (Comfort, Sport and Sport+). And the stock wheels and tires have been jettisoned in favor of four 20” polished alloys from ADV.1 wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

That extra grip is quite necessary, as ATT-TEC has added quite a bit of power to the little black beastie. Thanks to a remapped ECU and titanium exhaust system with remote controlled butterfly valves and buyer’s choice of titanium or carbon fiber tips, the 3.0L twin-turbo straight-six’s output jumps from 340hp to 395hp. Step up for the available custom intercooler setup, and the power peak rises to a remarkable 454hp. Needless to say, that kind of power should make the 1M even more of a giant killer than it already is.

If you want to some of these upgrades for your own 1 Series M, get ready to open your wallet. The exhaust system, minus installation, retails for the equivalent of $7,700, while the suspension kit is roughly $3,600 without installation fee. Add the ECU flash, intercooler, wheels and tires and you have a profanely pricey Prussian pocket rocket. But the fact that it’s a car so much faster and more exclusive than the already fast and exclusive stock BMW 1M certainly makes that hefty bill easier to swallow.
