What’s the biggest project you think you could knock out in the space of six months? Chances are, it’s nowhere remotely near as big or involved as building a 33.5 meter (110 foot) yacht from the keel up, yet that’s exactly what Spanish shipyard Astondoa did for one lucky Brazilian customer. The Sophye, based on the company’s Century 110 GLX design, is a mighty fine way to mark Astondoa’s 100th birthday.
Befitting the climate of the boat’s near-the-Equator home port, there’s an abundance of outdoor activity space dominated by two rearward-facing lounge areas, plus a pair of three-seat Sea-Doos that are garaged in the bow and an eight-passenger Williams jet-drive tender that resides in the aft garage. Inside, the full-beam master stateroom, five guest cabins and numerous common areas feature a stylish modern décor designed by the renowned Cristiano Gatto, while dual MTU 16V 2000 M84 engines can push the Sophye to a maximum of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots. Of course, as nice as life on board is, what’s the hurry to reach the next port?
