2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon is Our New Motoring Crush [w/ Video]
Every time a major automaker announces it will be producing a high performance station wagon, an angel gets its wings. And on the tragically-all-too-rare occasions such vehicles are offered for sale here in the U.S. of A., that same angel gets its dual-neck electric guitar. Thankfully, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon satisfies both of those criteria and, on top of that, it may be the baddest super-sedan-with-extra-badonk-a-donk ever to be let out of its cage by an OEM.
As you might have guessed, this every-day-is-leg-day version of the new S213 E-Class Wagon utilizes pretty much all of the same go-fast hardware as its sedanular sibling, including a sharper suspension system, beefier brakes, AMG-tweaked 4MATIC+ AWD system and 9-speed automatic transmission, and the mighty M178 4.0L twin-turbo V8 rated at a stonking 603 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft of torque. Mercedes-AMG says this practical powerhouse will heave itself from parked to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and onward to an electronically-limited top speed of 180 mph.
Now keep in mind the price tag of the E63 S Wagon is likely to spill over into the six-figure zone, and based on previous generations it will likely be a built-to-order-only model for North American buyers. Oh, and you’ll likely have to do without the rear-facing third-row bench seat. But those are sacrifices we would happily make were we in the position to buy one.
