A little over a year ago, at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Jaguar debuted a sweet concept car based on the F-Type Roadster. Called the Project 7 (as in the number of overall wins the company has at the 24 Hours of Le Mans), this rakish roadster blended retro cues like a cut-down windshield and a tonneau cover with a headrest fairing with modern mechanicals (namely Jaguar-Land Rover’s top spec 550 horsepower supercharged 5.0L V8). Naturally, there were more than a few people calling for a production version.

Well, Jaguar has heard those calls, and is debuting a Project 7 you can buy at this year’s Festival of Speed. Appearance-wise, it doesn’t look all that different from the concept: It’s still got the “sideways” racing stripe across the nose, wing on the back, tonneau cover and lowered windshield. Unfortunately, U.S.-bound Project 7s will have a regular F-Type Roadster windshield (Gee, thanks, Uncle Sam…). On the bright side, the blown V8 is actually making more power than last year’s concept; in fact, it’s the most powerful street-legal production Jag ever, with 575 horsepower (Torque holds steady at 502 lb.-ft.). The 8-speed automatic transmission has been tweaked to deliver even snappier shifts, which help the F-Type Project 7 hit 60 mph in a claimed 3.8 seconds, while top speed remains electronically capped at 186 mph.

And speaking of capped, Jaguar is limiting F-Type Project 7 production to 250 units worldwide. No word how many of those are being allocated to this side of the Atlantic, but we’re guessing it’s going to be a pretty tiny amount. So if you haven’t gotten on the horn to your favorite Jaguar dealer by now, there’s a good chance you’re already too late.
