2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR Ready to Hit Race Tracks Next Year

Few cars are as recognizable as the Porsche 911. It could be because the basic size and shape has not changed in decades. It could be because the Porsche 911 is the world’s most successful GT race car. Whatever the reason though, whenever a new Porsche comes around, the world better pay attention.

Porsche recently released pictures and specifications of the 2011 version of the 911 race car, the GT3 RSR. Wider wheels and tires, more horsepower, and improved aerodynamics are a few of the things on tap for the 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.

Power from the 4.0 liter six-cylinder boxer engine is up, from 450 horsepower last year to 455 horsepower this year. A redesigned exhaust system and modified air intake system contributed to the horsepower gains, as well as a new engine management system that adapts to different grades of fuel.

Other enhancements are plainly obvious on the front of the car, including a new front lip that provides improved downforce. On the back of the 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is a newly optimized wing that has been repositioned to provide maximum downforce. The front wheels are also now wider, growing from 11 to 12 inches to accommodate a wider tire and offset understeer. In an odd reversal, LED lights were taken from the street-legal Porsche 911 and applied to the GT3 race car.

Tipping the scales at around just 2,500 pounds, this lightweight 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is ready to rip up the racetracks in 2011.
