The “Toyobaru coupes” – Toyota 86, Toyota GT 86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ – have started reaching dealers worldwide, but they certainly aren’t staying at them very long as enthusiasts enthusiastically snap them up. Tidy proportions, a burbling boxer engine, meticulously tuned suspension and, oh by the way, rear-wheel drive will do that.
Of course, with so many car geeks moving into Toyobaru Town, it’s going to be hard to stand out from the crowd, at least for the next couple of months. But one company – Wald International – is already set to offer a body kit for the pushed-along sport coupes (or at least for the Toyota/Scion version). And, just going by the two renderings that have been released so far, it looks sharp.
Wald hasn’t released any specifics of the kit just yet, but just by looking at the pictures, we can tell you the front bumper has what appears to be a piece that fits over it and makes it lower and longer. The rocker extensions flow upward into the fenders and add forward- and rearward-facing scoops, as well as lowering the bottoms of the body sides. The rear bumper features creases on the sides, a big diffuser, and Lexus IS F (or Ferrari California) style stacked and slanted quad exhaust tips. There’s a fairly substantial ducktail spoiler atop the trunklid and, finally, a quartet of big Wald wheels wearing low-profile tires.
Expect Wald International to have details (like whether or not the kit will fit a BRZ) and pictures of the real deal soon. Also expect Wald’s U.S. distributor, Jonari, to sell a buttload of these kits to Scion FR-S owners. And expect us to bring you the full skinny when it’s made public.
