VIDEO: Codemasters Dishes on F1 2010

F1 2010's stunning weather effects.

Even though the real 2010 Formula 1 season is only one race old, Codemasters is already hard at work on F1 2010, the game that will allow you to participate in a virtual version of this year’s World Championship. Consequently, F1 2010 will feature all the 2010 teams (like Ferrari and McLaren), drivers (including the returning Michael Schumacher) and tracks (including the new Korean circuit). But there’s a whole lot more to the story of the latest official game of the World Championship.

After acquiring the F1 license from Sony two years ago, the folks behind two other hit racing franchises – DiRT and GRID – set about making the property their own, and their first effort – F1 2009 for the Wii and the PSP – was stout. But taking advantage of the extra computing power served up by the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC would take some serious work. Thankfully, the project’s two leaders (Paul Jeal and Stephen Hood) have loads of experience working on prior F1 games, including the revered Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix 3, and their consultant (former F1 race and test driver Anthony Davidson) is helping ensure the game features as many true-to-life experiences and nuances as possible. Hop the jump and watch the video as the lads introduce themselves and their baby.

Some of the facets of realism not mentioned include the way players will interact with the media and their agents, how the physics engine recalculates a wet track’s saturation every foot or so, and how beating your teammate will help get in-season upgrades on your car first. F1 2010 is set for European release in September, with American availability likely soon to follow.
