Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT) Toyota Racing Development (TRD)
Tommy Kaira is a Japanese tuning shop that has made a big name for itself by putting out some of the baddest (like bad meaning good) modification packages on the planet. Strangely enough, they got their start tinkering models from Mercedes but now focus exclusively on domestic rides from manufacturers like Nissan, Toyota and Subaru. And those outside Japan may have gotten their introduction through the Gran Turismo racing series, where Tommy Kaira makes a strong showing.
Now, at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon, the company is unveiling their latest package for the Nissan R35 GT-R. Known as the Silver Wolf edition, their take on Godzilla gets a full body kit, upgraded brakes, exhaust system and suspension components along with some new wheels and a revamped interior.
Toyota took a 20% hit in sales last year and lost a whopping $4.8 billion. The downturn in the economy was a big factor but the company's new chief, Mr. Toyoda, recognizes that the brand needs a shot of adrenaline. Scion has long had a strong heartbeat, speaking directly to a younger demographic with unbridled success. And Lexus has been getting serious about performance by delivering the 416 hp IS-F along with F-Sport tuning components, and more recently, blowing everyone away with the new 2011 LFA.
Toyota's current lineup is seriously lacking in the performance department but that is all about to change with the introduction of their FT-86 rear-wheel drive sports coupe. And to take things one step further, at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon, the Toyota G Sports Series was debuted as the company's new aftermarket bolt-on tuning offering.
The Japanese tuning company will unveil the MCR Modified Nissan 370Z at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon, which start tomorrow. The company does not have their own branded package but has pulled from a variety of aftermarket manufactures to pull together a very nice selection. Matchless Crowd Racing (MCR) has chosen to go with Enkei alloy wheels match with Yokohoma tires, upgraded sports suspension and exhaust systems and Endless Racing brake calipers.
