More than a few people think supercars are an endangered species. All the concerns about flaunting wealth inequality and using lots of gas are just some of the forces conspiring to make these most athletic of automobiles less and less desirable for both builders and buyers. So we can look forward to a future with fewer tarmac-melting monsters and more plug-in kumbaya cracker boxes, right?

Not so fast, kemosabe. If the lineup of world debuts at this year’s Geneva Motor Show is any indication, we may be entering a new golden age of 200+ mph hypercars. The difference this time around is many of them are a bit more responsible, with overdrive (and occasionally double overdrive) 7-speed transmissions and hybrid assist. Of course, these aren’t the only automotive stars in the lakeside Swiss municipality. Here are the 20 premieres that really stir our hot chocolate.

We aren’t ashamed to admit that we are serious fans of the cars made by the tiny German company Wiesmann. Though the exterior styling resembles that of vintage British sports cars (with Jaguar, Bristol and Austin-Healey cues sprinkled throughout), Wiesmann’s machines – be it a roadster or a coupe – feature thoroughly modern suspension and braking technology underneath. But the chassis isn’t the most notable concession to the fact that automotive engineering has advanced since the days of snap-in side curtains and finned drum brakes.

No, the most significant acknowledgement that this is the 21st century has to be the use of BMW engines. The first Wiesmann cars used straight-sixes, while later models were endowed with V8s, twin-turbo V8s and, in the case of earlier examples of the Roadster MF5, the 5.0L V10 from the last generation BMW M5 and M6. Naturally, the kind of power that engine makes (507hp) combined with the Roadster platform’s tidy dimensions and rather waifish weight translate to stupefying performance. But what comes after stupefying? SchwabenFolia set out to find the answer.

Aside from chocolate, cheese and timepieces, Switzerland is also known for its neutrality. As such, none of the world’s major auto manufacturers hold a distinct advantage when they roll into Geneva for the global car biz’s annual rite of spring (or late winter, anyway), the Geneva Motor Show. As a result, almost all of the world’s major nameplates (and many aftermarket tuners) have it circled on their calendars as a good venue for debuting new concept and production models. Here are 20 of our favorites from this year’s show.

Wiesmann first made its big splash at the Geneva Motor Show back in March of this year with the release of the 367 horsepower MF4 Roadster. Now, the retro-futuristic manufacturer from Germany has just unleashed a new, much more compelling creation at the Frankfort Motor Show. The Wiesmann Roadster MF5 is powered by a variation of the BMW V10 engine found in the M5/M6, so you know it’s gonna be fast. How fast, you ask? Well, this 507 horsepower open-air speedster will be able to hit 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and top out at 192 mph.
