We generally try to avoid using this little rest stop on the Information Autobahn as a bully pulpit, but if you have a sweet car, you really should keep it in a sweet garage. No, we’re not asking you to erect a 10,000 square foot temple of zoom that has diamonds mixed in the floor concrete and mahogany wall paneling with gold leaf detailing, but we are asking you to refrain from parking your Ferrari, Bentley or whatever next to the Great Wall of Pool Toys. You know, something you wouldn’t be ashamed of your fellow gearheads seeing.
This is not to say, however, that you shouldn’t build a Garage Mahal if you have the resources and desire to do so. Not a day goes by, in fact, that we don’t fantasize about our idea of the ultimate garage that we would build if we were up to our foreheads in f*ck-you money. Of course, there are lots of people who have already made those dreams a reality. Here then, in no particular order, are shots of the 25 most amazing garages on this (and possibly any other) planet. Who knows? Maybe they’ll help lower your productivity, too.
The Geneva Motor Show is one of the auto industry’s best-known rites of Spring. Every March, the motoring world converges on the lakeside Swiss metropolis to gawk at all the new models (vehicular and otherwise) on neutral ground. It’s absolutely one of the crown jewels of the international auto show calendar.
And because it’s such a prestigious show, the manufacturers tend to bring their best production and concept cars to the Geneva Palexpo. This means picking out the best of the best is a mighty daunting task, which is why we’ve decided to expand the field to 25. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover, so let’s hop to it.
For the second time in about three months, the Las Vegas Convention Center is buzzing with the activity endemic to a major international trade show. And while November is when the automotive aftermarket has its annual pow-wow, January is reserved for the consumer electronics industry’s biggest get together or the year: The Consumer Electronics Show, or CES for the abbreviationally-inclined.
Ironically, the Consumer Electronics Show is, like SEMA, not open to consumers. However, thanks to the seemingly limitless (unless SOPA and/or PIPA pass) power of the Internets, there are plenty of interesting words and pretty pictures pertaining to all the cool new gadgets and services debuting at the show floating around. But you’re not interested in reading one article for hours and hours, right? Of course not. That’s why we’ve limited the following list to the 25 gizmos we think are the coolest and most likely to attain “gotta have” status.
Unless you’re participating in a medical study involving sensory deprivation (And who doesn't love those?), we're quite certain you’re aware that the Holiday Season (known in simpler, allegedly more insensitive times as Christmastime) is upon us. And whether you’re proclivities during this time of year lean towards hanging tinsel and trinkets on an indoor conifer, symbolically lighting one candle in a stylish candle holder every night, or standing on your roof in the nude while banging a tambourine against your belly and whispering your prayers to the Cantaloupe King and his Magic Curling Iron (We don’t judge.), chances are there will be at least some gift-giving going on, if there hasn’t been any already.
With that in mind, we’ve concocted the following list of 25 great gearhead gift ideas. They fall into many categories, and into a wide range of price brackets, but they all have one unifying trait: An ability to bring a smile to the face of all but the most jaded car geeks. We’re pretty sure you’ll find at least one item that’s a perfect fit for the recipient you have in mind.
Customizing cars is a bit of a black art, if you think about it. It’s dangerously easy to cross the line that defines the boundary between cool and outlandish. Sometimes a whip turns out just a bit goofy…and sometimes it’s just so wacky it causes the brains of all who gaze upon it to capsize inside their skulls. It is this latter category of modified machines that has captured our attention on this holiday weekend, so much so that we decided to scour the Information Turnpike for what are, for our money, the 25 most over-the-top rides ever to roam a road.
Though some people aren’t fans of signs, the fact of the matter is they’re needed to maintain an orderly (or something loosely resembling it) modern society. This is particularly true on the road, where signs are used to keep motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike safe and informed.
Of course, some street signs are more straightforward and sensible than others. Occasionally, you come across a sign that just makes you wonder if a single human being bothered to look at it at any point during the design, printing and installation process. Here are 25 that we feel fit that description.
