• Smile, You’re on Candid Camaro: Jeff Gordon and Pepsi Troll a Car Salesman [Video]

video still 035 640x357 Smile, You’re on Candid Camaro: Jeff Gordon and Pepsi Troll a Car Salesman [Video]

While it’s impossible for one to verify 100% the authenticity of a hidden camera prank (unless you’re on the receiving end of one, that is), there’s no denying that many of the situations into which subjects are put (and their reactions to them) are hilarious. It’s even more funny when celebrities are the ones pulling the prank. In those instances, the prankee doesn’t know what to be more flummoxed by: The fact that he’s been had, or the fact that he’s been had by a well-known figure.

Four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon certainly qualifies as a well-known figure, even outside motorsports circles (Seems like only yesterday he was dominating our Thursday evening TV viewing, administering beatdowns to his USAC Sprint and Midget car rivals while winning fans’ hearts with his gawky kid demeanor and mustachioed, bemulleted grooming. Yes, we are indeed that old.). So when the future NASCAR hall of famer and longtime sponsor Pepsi decided to have some fun at the expense of a used car salesman and an ’09 Chevrolet Camaro, you just knew the payoff was going to be good. And it is, all-but-certainly-staged-ness be damned.

  • VIDEO: Guerlain Chicherit Backflips a Mini Countryman, because Why Not?

mini backflip 640x324 VIDEO: Guerlain Chicherit Backflips a Mini Countryman, because Why Not?

Despite standing under the same corporate umbrella as straight-laced BMW and Rolls-Royce, Mini has managed to remain cheeky, irreverent, and largely unaffected by the trappings success. Can you think of any other automaker that would have responded to accidentally flooding a fan’s email inbox by mailing said fan a sincere mea culpa and an actual can of Spam? We certainly can’t.

We also can’t think of a carmaker other than Mini that would put its marketing might behind an attempt to backflip a car and (hopefully) land on all fours on a ramp made of snow. Yet that’s exactly what the pint-size car pusher has done, teaming up with French stunt driver Guerlain Chicherit. So did Chicherit and his Mini Countryman X-raid (the same type of vehicle Stephane Peterhansel used to win last month’s Dakar Rally) stick the landing? Click through and find out!

  • VIDEO: New Drift Film from Clash Production – Vernal Equinox

CPCP VIDEO: New Drift Film from Clash Production Vernal Equinox

In the ever-expanding world of the Internet, there are countless ways to explore your own talent. Clash Productions has made its name by putting together incredibly high-quality motorsport videos, lately putting together amazing drifting footage. Using a variety of special effects, stunning angles and synching the visuals with the perfect soundtrack, they have set the bar for internet car videos. Their newest offering, dubbed Vernal Equinox, is looking to push the boundaries a little further. A Vernal Equinox is the spring equinox, or simply something that only comes once a year.

Director Stephane Benini wanted to use drifting to tell a story, albeit a strange one. It reminds me of something M. Night Shamalan would enjoy. The drifting is top notch, with some incredible angles and settings. The silent story that plays throughout the 12 minute film is not your usual YouTube film, far from it. It’s been clear that the people behind Clash have the eye, skills, and talent for projects beyond the automotive, and this video is an example of them reaching for new heights. Make the jump to watch the sideways intrigue that is Vernal Equinox, and tell us what you think!

  • Video: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing Supercar Does the Corkscrew

mercedes sls tunnel Video: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Gullwing Supercar Does the Corkscrew

The first time we saw a car do a corkscrew was when Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear pulled some G’s in a Renault Twingo in a tunnel in Belfast. Now, the folks at Mercedes-Benz have performed the same feat using their new supercar, the SLS AMG Gullwing. Whether or not this video is real is debatable. The SLS seems to maintain some pretty excessive hangtime upside down. We’ll have an update if there is ever confirmation, but for now just enjoy the footage after the jump.

  • VIDEO: Travis Pastrana Makes World Record Rally Car Jump on New Year’s 2010

travis pastrana new years jump VIDEO: Travis Pastrana Makes World Record Rally Car Jump on New Years 2010

While revelers were packed into Times Square waiting for the ball to drop, folks on the Left Coast in Long Beach were anticipating something equally (or much more so for us) exciting. Legendary extreme sports star Travis Pastrana attempted and shattered the old world record for rally car jumps of 171 feet at the Red Bull New Year No Limits Event.

Using a heavily modified Subaru Impreza WRX STI with 450 hp and a reinforced roll-cage, Pastrana launched off a boat-mounted ramp in Rainbow Harbor at 90 mph, propelling himself over 250+ feet of water and onto a barge. Yeah, we’re not joking, and if you think you got thrills from Partypoker or skydiving, try this out, because he sure did – and it worked. The landing was perfect but the car had so much momentum that it quickly got sideways and skidded into a barrier.

  • VIDEO: Ken Block Releases Gymkhana Two Artist Remix, A Director’s Cut & Highlights

gymkhana2 artist remix 0 VIDEO: Ken Block Releases Gymkhana Two Artist Remix, A Directors Cut & Highlights

You knew Ken Block was going to close out 2009 with something special, and something special has cometh. The DC Shoes marketing squad has unleashed four new videos to dazzle, delight and disrupt your brain cycles. Both the Gymkhana 2 Director’s Cut and Block vs Pastrana: Game of Suck Highlights are entertaining rehashes of content we’ve seen before, but they are just as exciting as the first go-round. While the 2008 Season Highlights video is pretty captivating, we would have liked to have seen some more recent footage, except Ken Block didn’t compete too much in 2009.

But the real coup d’état here is the psychedelic, tripped out ride he takes us on in the Artist Remix of Gymkhana Two. No spoilers here, but if you want to throw on the Grateful Dead and pop a tab before you hit play you won’t be disappointed. There are quite a few product placements intimately woven into the 6:40 clip, along with some second rate movie special effects and enough randomness to have you scratching your head a few times, but somehow it just works. Check out all four videos out after the jump:

  • Kobe Byrant Jumps Over Speeding Aston Martin

kobe jumps aston Kobe Byrant Jumps Over Speeding Aston Martin

I was checking out some car videos on YouTube the other day and came across a clip I saw quite a while ago but never thought to post. Now, with Kobe Bryant having recently captured the NBA Finals MVP and winning the NBA Championship with the LA Lakers, I thought it might be timely. And the Aston Martin in the video makes it relevant, right?

If things went badly, there would have been no Kobe and no Lakers taking home the Larry O’Brien. Anyway, check out the video of Kobe jumping a speeding car. The man has a 38″ vertical leap so he makes it looks easy. However, also check out the videos of some copy cats— one who got it done in impressive fashion and another whose day ended in tragedy.

What’s so cool is that they took The Infomercial concept and made it truly unique and wildly entertaining. Ken Block is off the hook! • Fifth Gear Loop-the-Loop Stunt Event World Record

Picture%202 1 0 Fifth Gear Loop the Loop Stunt Event World Record

There has been a lot of buzz leading up to the world record attempt for the largest loop-the-loop ever performed in a car. You probably accomplished this feat hundreds of times on your Darda car tracks when you were little. I know I created some pretty crazy setups and had my windup sports cars pulling off some cool stuff. So, when you look at this you must be thinking, piece of cake, right? Not so much…  Known as the “Death Loop” by professional stuntmen this thing has been attempted many times over the years on skateboards, motorbikes and trucks with a spotty record of successes mixed with some mobility-ending injuries and a smattering of death certificates.

Last weekend 19,000 fans showed up at Shanghai’s Formula One track to check out a show sponsored by Cadillac to celebrate the launch of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V in China. A professional stunt team from Hollywood excited fans with an awesome display of mad driving skills and crazy moves. Spiderman even made an appearance to show-off his daredevil abilities, leaping between cars! A noteable hightlight was when GM test engineer John Heinricy set a new course record in the Cadillac CTS-V for the quickest-ever lap run with a production sedan. Check out the video after the jump:
