We said it on Wednesday, and we’ll say it again: High performance station wagons are pretty much the best idea ever. However, there is a problem with them: They’re seldom offered to U.S. buyers. Yes, we know, they’d sell even worse than non-hot rod wagons (which is saying something), but if Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz are making it work (or at least trying to), what’s stopping Audi and BMW?
In any case, Drive host Chris Harris recently pitted the latest Audi RS6 Avant against the stylish (if deceptively-named) Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake. Both feature rambunctious twin-turbo V8s under their hoods, and both have room for five people and quite a lot of stuff. However, they are different enough to have two distinct characters. And they’re different enough for Chris to be able to pick the one he’d rather have.
