Rocky Mountain Haut: Sebastien Loeb and Peugeot Prepare for their Pikes Peak Assault [Video]
Last monthwe reportedthat the winner of the last nineWorld Rally Championshipdriver’s crowns,Sebastien Loeb, has teamed withPeugeotto take on thePikes Peak International Hill Climb. The venture represents a new adventure forLoeb(who is semi-retired from theWRC), and a new chapter in an old adventure forPeugeot, who enjoyed a fair bit of success onZebulon’s mountainin the late 1980s. You know, back when they still sold cars here? (Depressing factoid: Most American kids who have graduated college in the last few weeks haven’t seen a new Peugeot sold on these shores in their lifetimes.)
Anyway, the cheese-eating motorsports automaton, er, Seb and thePeugeot Sportteam have landed in Colorado, and – along with other entrants – have made some practice runs up the hill with the208 T16which, thanks to a mid-mounted 875hp twin-turbo V6 and a tubular-frame, is about as much a Peugeot 208 asJohn Force’sFord Mustang funny caris aFordMustang. We’re itching to see if Loeb and Peugeot can conquer the mountain, though it must be said we’re even more eager for the horrific wildfires raging in the Mile High State to be snuffed out.
