The Porsche 918 Spyder has been rocking the supercar status quo boat ever since it debuted as a concept car three-and-a-half years ago. Prior to that car’s premiere, the very notion of a plug-in hybrid anything from Porsche (much less a Carrera GT-succeeding exotic) seemed preposterous. And yet, here it is, about to go into production for sale to the public (or at least the most financially secure members of the public).
However, there’s been one big nugget of info pertaining to the 918 Spyder that the world has been waiting on: Its Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time. At six minutes and 57 seconds, it’s faster around the Green Hell than any other street legal production car (street legal in the U.S., anyway). Porsche made this short video documenting the milestone event; however, if you want to ride on test driver Marc Lieb’s shoulder, uncut, no fancy-schmancy helicopter shots or quick cuts to the guys on pit road, for the entire record lap, you can check it out here.
