Report: Aston Martin Cygnet Will Only Be Available to Current Owners

A few weeks ago we brought news of the Aston Martin Cygnet concept. It has now been reported that these petite luxury commuters will only be available to current owners. The Cygnet is essentially a plush and upgraded version of the Toyota iQ and will use the same 1.33-liter engine good for 97 hp and 91 lb-ft of torque. Surprisingly, a top speed of 105 mph is attainable.

Aston Matin's head honcho, Ulrich Bez, has been quoted as saying, "This concept is akin to an exclusive tender for a luxury yacht." The company has decided to go this direction now that environmentally friendly city cars are top of mind.

The styling of the Cygnet follows the now customary wide open grill and headlights appearing on some of Aston Martin's luxury supercars such as the Vantage. The rear LED lights take after the new Rapide. As strange as it may be to see the brand aesthetic miniaturized and shrunk down into a Toyota econo-box, Aston Martin has done everything they can to spruce things up. The high-end paint job, light use of carbon fiber and multi-spoke alloy wheels definitely go a long way.

Inside, there is an excessive abundance of red and black quilted leather upholstery and some premium accents. There is also a pretty cool iPhone dock above the center column of the dashboard. The Aston Martin Cygnet will fetch between £20,000 and £30,000, which is a serious premium over the Toyota iQ. Only 2,000 units will be produced for the discerning Aston Martin owner.
