Tuning house DMC has never been afraid to mess with supercar near-perfection. In fact, it now offers not one, not two, but three different body kits for the Ferrari 458 Italia and 458 Spider. Our favorite of the bunch – the Elegante – is definitely distinguishable from stock, but not super-garish, either. Think of it as an alternate-universe 458 Speciale, without the reduced weight or hopped-up engine.

But this recently-completed all-black 458 Elegante is a Prancing Horse of a different color, both literally and figuratively. The DMC kit’s front splitter add-ons, side skirts and carbon fiber rear diffuser with matching covers for the rear fog lights are all present. However, the Elegante’s vented hood/front trunklid and rear wing are not, which is fine by us. We’re also fine with the black, barely-there wheels, tinted windows and smoked taillights.

That being said, though, we would have liked to see at least something done with the engine, even if it was just an aftermarket exhaust system. As it is, from what we can tell the 4.5L V8 is making the same 562 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft of torque. That’s certainly nothing at which to turn up one’s nose, but when you’ve got a car that looks this special, you want it to sound and feel special when you stomp on the skinny pedal.

Even so, you will be paying DMC handsomely if you want to replicate this car’s visual specialness on your mid-mounted V8 Ferrari. Quite how much hasn’t been revealed, but when dealing with custom carbon fiber bodywork additions, you should always expect to be making out a check with quite a few numbers to the left of the decimal point.
