The Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG is a four-door tour de force right off the showroom floor. The 5.5L twin-turbo V8 kicks out 518hp and 516 lb.-ft of torque (or 550hp and 590 lb.-ft if you order the AMG Performance Package) and blasts it to 60 mph in a claimed 4.4 seconds. And thanks to the combination of the low, coupe-like roofline and the AMG styling bits, this musclebound Mercedes looks as fast as it is. What’s not to like about that?

Well, one possible qualm would be that there isn’t much AMG will do to differentiate one CLS63 AMG from another, other than colors and wheel styles, of course. So what’s the individualist buyer to do? Talk to the aftermarket, of course! And the latest tuner to give the new hot CLS its special touch is German Special Customs, or GSC for short.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is Badder by the Dozen

Ask 100 seasoned car biz watchers about the future of 12-cylinder engines, and 99 of them will tell you they're running on borrowed time. With ever-more-daunting fuel economy and emissions regulations being enacted worldwide, and advances in areas like turbocharging, direct fuel injection and hybrid assistance making V8s more and more powerful while still being less thirsty than comparably-performing V12s and W12s, it's easy to assume that twelves will soon go the way of the vent window, cigarette lighter and cassette deck (Hey, those mix tapes aren't going to digitize themselves!). Sad but true...or is it?

Mercedes-Benz - more specifically, wholly-owned tuner AMG - apparently doesn't see a future where eight is enough (not an immediate future, anyway). How else do you explain the German labels introducing a new SL65 AMG ahead of next month's New York Auto Show?

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Hamann Hawk Roadster Takes Flight

Psssst, hey! Can you keep a secret? Come a little closer. A bit closer…there! Woof, have you ever considered investing in a box of Tic Tacs? Anyway, here it is: We like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster more than we do the Coupe. We know, we know, the enclosed version’s gullwing doors are boss, and it’s stiffer, meaning it’s a little better in the turns. But the stubby roofline with no quarter windows (the opposite of the timeless original 300SL Gullwing of the mid-1950s) sullies what is an otherwise sexy design, and reaching up to close those doors might take its toll on your left shoulder after a while. The SLS AMG Roadster resolves both of those issues, as well as making fresh air and sunshine a flip of the fabric top away.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Slims Down and Powers Up [w/ Video]

The R230 chassis Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG was the first AMG-fortified SL to be produced in significant volumes and the first to be exported to North America (The V12-powered R129 chassis SL60 AMG and SL73 AMG, as well as the normally aspirated R129 SL55 AMG, were neither.). It also helped introduce thousands of buyers worldwide to the brilliant combination of a snappy forced-induction V8, retractable hardtop, and performance oriented suspension tuning, and the sales figures reflected that.

Fast forward about a decade, and Mercedes-Benz and its in-house tuner are taking the hot dog V8 SL back to that winning formula by switching back to a blower-fed engine. But it’s also moving the model into the future by slashing the curb weight by a significant amount. The result is the silver super roadster you see here, the 2013 SL63 AMG.

Wheelsandmore Spices up the SLS AMG with the Silver Wing

When Mercedes-Benz and in-house tuner AMG decided to reincarnate the spirit of the iconic 300SL “Gullwing” in the form of the SLS AMG, we doubt that either group realized just how popular it would become within the tuning community. But the fact of the matter is the aftermarket has gone apecrap for this front-engined firebrand from the Fatherland. And with a snarling V8, a slick dual-clutch tranny, meticulously refined chassis and, oh yeah, those conversation-starter doors, can you really blame it?

Anyway, the latest tuning outfit to enhance the SLS is Wheelsandmore. As the name of this German-based, spacebar-averse company suggests, there’s a lot more to this suite of upgrades than those snazzy new rims. What else does it take to transform a showroom standard SLS AMG into a Silver Wing? Find out after the jump.
