Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT) Toyota Racing Development (TRD)

This past Saturday marked the 3rd annual SpoCom event and like past shows was a true success. With all of the automakers in seemingly dire straits you would think that a segment that thrives on expensive upgrades and often serious customization would be going through tough times. But if you walked around SpoCom 2009 and saw all of the hardcore enthusiasts, car exhibitors and the vendors in attendance, you would truly understand that this is a niche market that is still growing strong.
For those unfamiliar, SpoCom (which stands for Sports Compact) is the tuning scene equivalent of SEMA. Basically, this is an industry trade show that is open to the public focusing specifically on import cars and sports compacts. Whereas the focus Hot Import Nights (HIN) is pure entertainment with tricked out rides and lots of sex appeal, SpoCom takes a different approach by looking to directly connect consumers with manufacturers. In fact, most of the top companies on the sports compact and tuning scene have some type of presence at these shows.
But Spocom is not without entertainment as well. In additition to some of the coolest rides you'll ever come across, there were dance shows and bikini competitions, great DJs spinning music and models everywhere you looked. Check out the car pictures in the large image gallery as part of our coverage of the 2009 SpoCom show in Long Beach.
