TechArt Porsche Cayenne Diesel - Better Performance, Same Fuel Economy

TechArt Cayenne Diesel

Porsche tuner TechArt is fresh off their win of Sport Auto's Tuner Grand Prix 2009. But this doesn't have Stuttgart's finest mod shop resting on its laurels as they have just announced a new package for the Porsche Cayenne Diesel. Compared to some of TechArt's previous builds, like the 680 hp TechArt Magnum (based on the Cayenne Turbo S), this design is much tamer and will have broader appeal.

The TechArt Porsche Cayenne Diesel improves on the original 3.0-liter engine by upping output from 240 hp to 290 hp and boosting torque from 406 lb-ft to a considerable 465 lb-ft., which drops the 0-60 mph time to 7.7 seconds from 8.3 seconds. This is nice and all, but the biggest gain here is really the huge amount of available torque and flat delivery that facilitates quick acceleration from any speed, thereby giving this fuel-sipping SUV the feel of having a big V8. And amazingly, all of this is accomplished without affecting the fuel economy ratings (a combined 30.4 mpg) or the CO2 emissions.

TechArt offers a specially crafted aerodynamics kit that gives it a much more aggressive stance and street cred along with significantly better airflow. The kit includes a revised front end that has a deep front spoiler, integrated headlights and fog lights and large cooling vents. In the rear, there is a new apron with built-in diffuser, a low drag roof spoiler and twin double oval exhaust pipes. The kit provides 21" alloy wheels but you can upgrade to 22" body color matched wheels. If your Cayenne was outfitted with air suspension, TechArt has a control module that can lower the vehicle.

Inside, the Porsche Cayenne Diesel, TechArt provides a sports steering wheel, light-weight aluminum pedals and luxury floormats containing their logo. The company also offers tons of options including all kinds of special leather interiors created by their world-class coach builders.

The turnkey model of the TechArt Porsche Cayenne Diesel, including the Powerkit (engine tuning package) and Aerokit 1 (styling modifications, wheels & interior upgrades), runs £55,500 (around $90,000 USD). If you are providing your own vehicle, the engine tuning kit costs £2,500 (about $4,000 USD) and the aero package will set you back £15,000 (roughly $25,000 USD).
