TechArt Refreshes the Porsche 997 Carrera S & 4S with New Performance Kits
Those of us who cover the automotive space often focus so much attention on the Porsche 911 Turbo, GT2 and GT3 variants, that we tend to forget about what many paying consumers believe are the cars to have - the Porsche 997 Carrera S and 4S. These two workhorses seem to walk the chosen path, sporting a price tag significantly less than the Turbo, but still providing outstanding performance and all the niceties that Porsche has to offer in this model class. The biggest benefit of the TechArt offering is a new sport exhaust system and engine management software that bumps up output from the 3.8-liter flat-six from 385 to 420 hp, a gain of 35 horses. This number may sound familiar, as the 996 Turbo had this same exact engine rating. The exhaust system includes two stainless steel racing headers with sports catalytic converters and a rear muffler with an exhaust flap. It also has an exhaust flap control unit and twin oval tailpipes in high-gloss or black chrome. The driver is given the opportunity to switch between a throaty sport sound or a powerful racing sound. This is one of the most impressive piping configurations that we've seen for the Porsche 911 to date.
But the fun doesn't stop there as TechArt provides the Full Monty. They offer a special body kit featuring a lip spoiler, side sills, roof spoiler and rear wing. The trailing edge of the wing, aka Gurney flap, is fully adjustable to dial-in the desired settings. In addition, carbon fiber decorative screens are color-matched and fitted on the outside mirrors. TechArt also has two different suspension systems for the 997 Carrera providing sport springs and adjustable shocks for both vehicles with and without PASM. No customization would be complete without a set of signature TechArt light-alloy wheels offered in both 19 and 20-inches. And finally, for the interior, the company provides special leather upholstery and a variety of steering wheels along with aluminum petals and trim options.
