Gemballa tunes Porsches and tunes them oh so well. With 27 years of experience the company puts out production cars based on underlying Porsche models but bearing the Gemballa namesake. The first generation of the Gemballa program for the Porsche 911 burst on the scene in the mid 1980s and was dubbed Avalanche. Now, over two decades later, the company is still going strong and has just introduced the 2009 Gemballa Avalanche GTR 650 Evo-R based on the Porsche 911 Turbo.
This new creation sports a serious engine makeover including racing crankshaft, titanium connecting rod, forged pistons and racing turbo chargers. Airflow is increased via an aluminum induction pipe and carbon air box with a more breathable air filter. The result of these efforts is that the Gemballa Avalanche GTR 650 Evo-R is capable of 650 hp, sprints from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 206 mph. The sound this engine makes is truly phenomenol based on a new stainless steel exhaust system with racing headers. Gemballa isn't exactly set in their ways. If you want them to take the car up to 800 hp, that is actually an option as well.
The Gemballa Avalanche GTR 650 Evo-R is based on the Porsche 911 Turbo but the the company uses this simply as a building block for their ultimate creation. The Avalanche features a host of redesigned parts that make it instantly distinguishable. These include a new hood with raised midsection, lower side skirts, carbon front wings, front skirt, carbon front lip, larger side vents, a rear skirt with integrated rear diffuser, massive rear wing, gull wing doors, front headlights from the Carrera GT along with metal body extensions produced by the Thyssen Group and welded directly to the body shell.
Additional perfomance mods include 6-piston brake calipers up front and 4-piston calipers in rear, both outfitted with massive discs. The 2009 Avalanche GTR 650 Evo-R rides on tires measuring 245/30ZR20 up front and 325/25/ZR20 in back. The suspension system features a new coilover kit, four individually adjustable rebound dampers, sports stabilizers and new strut braces.
The new Gemballa Avalanche GTR 650 Evo-R is truly one of the company's best efforts to date. This vehicle can be had for a scant 350,000 euros or $492,695 (at current exchange rates). But don't fret, the base Porsche 911 Turbo is included in this price.
