Frankfurt 2009 Preview: Limited Edition 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic (w/Video)

Porsche has been on an absolute tear of late. Besides a refreshed line-up for the 2010 model year that includes a more powerful 911 Turbo, revised 911 GT3 RS, and updated 911 GT3 Cup Race Car, the company has just announced that a limited-edition Porsche 911 Sport Classic will be unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as well. Limited to just 250 cars, this unique 911 has been developed for over three years by Porsche Exclusive.

The Porsche 911 Sport Classic is much more than just a new body kit and trim package. The double-dome roof and fixed rear-position spoiler, reminiscent of the legendary ducktail from the 1973 Carrera RS, are dead giveaways that this model is cut from a different cloth. The SC also features a wider rear body and new front apron with spoiler lip.

The Sport Classic is based on the rear-wheel drive Carrera S and uses the same 3.8-liter flat six, but instead of 385 horsepower, gets a boost to 408 by way of a newly developed intake manifold with six vacuum-controlled switching flaps. The only transmission available is the company's six-speed manual gearbox.

Enhanced performance comes standard with a mechanical rear axle differential, PCCB Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes and a PASM sports suspension that drop the car down to a lower ride height. Of course, no limited-edition vehicle would be complete without a set of custom wheels and Porsche offers up Fuchs-style 19 inch wheels with the insets painted black, a nod to the SC models from the 70s and 80s.

Inside, Porsche decided to try something new and use materials that had never graced the interior of a 911 before. Woven leather and yarn are used on the seat centerpieces while the dashboard and all of the add-on components are finished in Espresso Nature natural leather.

The 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic will make its official debut in a couple of weeks in Frankfurt and then go on sale in January of next year with a base price of 169,300 Euros (USD $242,149). No word yet on whether a US launch will ever happen but we'll keep our fingers crossed.
