2010 Geneva Motor Show Preview: The Return of the Porsche 911 Turbo S

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S

The top dog is back after a 5 year hiatus. Sliding in at the top of the model lineup, the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S will up the ante for the entire 997 platform. Any time you see an S at the end of the name for a Porsche model it's a beautiful thing, and even more so when the word Turbo is planted just before.

The twin-turbo flat-six engine gets amped up to 530 hp with 516 ft-lb of torque, and through a bit of automative wizardry, maintains the same fuel economy as the 500-horsepower base model Turbo. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed PDF dual clutch gearbox with a torque vectoring system making sure all that might is actually wielded as the driver sees fit.

Performance specs are outstanding as expected. The sprint from 0-62 mph takes only 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 196 mph. If you are wondering about how the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S tacks up against the evenly powered 911 GT2 you may be surprised. The GT2 takes 3.7 seconds to hit 62 mph from a standstill giving up 4/10th of a second, but does top out at a more extreme 204 mph.

The 2010 Geneva Motor Show will mark the official debut of the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S. The car will go on sale in Europe beginning in may with the Coupe starting at €173,241 (which includes the 19% VAT) and the Cabriolet coming in at €184,546 (including the 19% VAT). No information is available on US pricing but we should see these models on our shores by summer.
