Watch Out! Lamborghini Debuts Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition
If there are two types of machines in this world guaranteed to usurp our attention, they are fancy cars and fancy timepieces. For decades the two genres of mechanized creations have gone together like peanut butter and jelly, whether it’s keeping precise track of lap times on the race track or just making absolutely sure the world know’s you’ve hit the big time.
These days, many luxury and exotic car manufacturers have close working relationships with some of the world’s preeminent watchmakers. Lamborghini and Blancpain comprise just such a power couple, with the Swiss firm providing title sponsorship for the Italian supercar builder’s Super Trofeo spec-racing series, as well as creating a limited edition chronograph commemorating the Super Trofeo. Now Lamborghini is returning the love by unleashing a special Super Trofeo-inspired Gallardo for the street: the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition.
Only offered with a black exterior and interior, this co-branded rocket features contrasting yellow Blancpain logos and lettering inside and outside, unique carbon fiber rear wing and vented engine cover, Scorpius wheels and carbon-ceramic brake rotors. Those special pieces help drop weight down to 2,954 lb., making the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition the lightest current street legal Lambo.
Less weight means more performance, but more power also means more performance. That’s why the Lamborghini engineers bumped the 5.2L V10 up to 570hp (the same as the Super Trofeo racer). This combination of diet and ‘roids translates to a scorching 3.4 second sprint to 62 mph from a dead stop, while top speed is somewhere north of 199 mph. Expect more details (including how many will be built and how many lawns you’ll have to mow to afford one) to emerge when the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition rolls onto the Lamborghini stand at the Paris Motor Show this week. Try not to get to wound up while waiting…
